Biometric modality: Eye: Retina – what is it?

The retina lies at the back of the eye and detects light which is transmitted as electrical impulses to the optic nerve. The retina is fed by a network of blood vessels and it is this network that forms the unique structure that facilitates retina recognition. The array of blood vessels is different in each eye and no two people have the same configuration. See also Vascular (Vein).
